Description
The Community Surf Lifesaving Certificate course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to be able to supervise students not only in the surf but in all natural water environments. This active and engaging two day course consists of both theory and practical components. The course covers the following topics:
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Personal safety and wellbeing
- Surf awareness and skills
- Communication
- Rescue techniques
- Planning a beach visit
- Carries and supports
Assessment
To demonstrate competency, candidates are assessed on both theoretical and practical components throughout the course.
Theory consists of an examination paper (80% pass mark)
Water based assessments include:
- Signals
- 200m run / 200m swim / 200m run at a beach (eight minutes or less)
- Risk and safety assessment
- Rescues
Candidates will also receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
PUASAR013A - Participate in an aquatic rescue operation
PUASAR012C - Apply surf awareness and self rescue skills
Prerequisites
- Candidates must be 15 years of age.
- Must have held a Community Surf Lifesaving Certificate previously
- Must have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability i.e. be able to swim 400 metres in 9 minutes in a swimming pool
